Without our Coaches, we would not be able to offer the thrill of lacrosse to our local youth!
As of 2011, all bench personnel are required to be certified coaches (one trainer allowed - trainer must have Trainer credentials). Westlock Lacrosse Association pays for all coaching clinics. Minor players who are helping with practices are not required to take a clinic, but they will not be able to assist on the bench for a game if they are not certified (must be 16 years old to attend a clinic).
See ALA Regulation #17 and #18 which address Coaches and Trainers qualifications. It is a good idea for all coaches and managers to familiarize themselves with all of the ALA and GELC Bylaws and Regulations (see Information - Bylaws section of this website for links).
All coaches, new and old have to fill out a coaching application

Coaches for 6U, 8U, 10U and 12U must complete the "Community Development" Clinic. There is no prerequisite course required.
14U, 16U and Junior Coaches must complete "Competitive Introductory" Clinic. You must have completed the Community Development Clinic prior to taking this, and you must have completed and submitted your workbook. (If you have not yet taken any coaching clinics, you must take the Community Development this year and Competitive Intro next year)
ALL COACHES must also complete the RESPECT IN SPORT on-line course. This is a one-time course, not an annual requirement. It will take approx. 2 hours, and can be done in segments as your time permits.
For coaches who need to complete workbooks to obtain certification: DO NOT submit a workbook which has been photocopied (for copyright reasons); an original workbook must be completed (although you are encouraged to photocopy your completed workbook for your records before submitting the original for evaluation). PLEASE NOTE IF YOU HAVE TAKEN A CLINIC YOU MUST COMPLETE YOUR WORKBOOK BY THE FOLLOWING MARCH - failure to submit the workbook means you will have to re-take the clinic, at additional expense to our Association.
Westlock Lacrosse Association has coaching resources, including DVDs and manuals. These are distributed to the head coaches, for all interested coaches (or potential coaches) to use. Please contact Ken if you are interested in more info.
