What days will my child practice?

We have a tentative practice schedule in place; however it is subject to change depending on our coaches availability. Check out our schedule page.

How much traveling is involved?

Teams usually have at least 1 game a week. (No games on May long weekend) starting mid- April. Half of these games will be played at home in Westlock.  Games are most often played on the weekend.  Weekday games are possible for U11 & up.  During Playoffs U11 & up will have only weekday games.

What are the Levels of Lacrosse?

Lacrosse offers A, B & C level at U13, U15 & U17 Male. Female teams don‘t have levels at this time. U11 play up to 4 games in the season and then the League tiers them.

What if my child wants to play "A" level?

GELC A league is run in Zones. WLA Zone is Westlock, Parkland Posse (Spruce Grove) & West Edmonton Blues.  Players within the Zone will tryout and form a team that will be run mostly out of the Spruce Grove, West Edmonton area. You must register with your home club first and let the President know you intend to tryout so all pertinent information can be forwarded to you as it becomes available.  WLA may host an A team, but player numbers typically dictate that we don‘t.

What do I need for equipment?

Please refer to the equipment guide.  Please note that although knee pads are not mandated by the Alberta Lacrosse Association, it is mandated by Westlock Lacrosse Association that all players, U15 and Below, wear knee pads at all times when on the playing surface. This includes Practice and Games.

How far will I travel?

The farthest we travel is Leduc.  Your team may choose to do tournaments that may have you travel elsewhere, but those are optional.

Do I have to fundraise?

WLA does a fundraiser every year.  You will have the option of a buyout or doing the fundraiser at the beginning of the year. Please see fundraiser page for more info.

Do I have to volunteer?

WLA does not require everyone to volunteer as of yet.  On occasion we may ask for some help but each team will have small roles that require the help of parents and we ask that everyone do their part to help make the year successful.
